Al Oliver's 2,000th career hit snapped a 0-0 tie in the sixth inning and sparked the Rangers to a 2-0 victory over the A's. Mickey Rivers singled with one out in the sixth inning and, after Johnny Grubb walked, Oliver lined a single to right, driving in Rivers. Grubb singled home Bud Harrelson with the other Texas run in the seventh. Jon Matlack and John Henry Johnson combined for the 11-hit shutout. [The Sporting News]
