. . . where the 1970s live forever!
The Royals clinched the West Division title by winning the first game of a twi-night doubleheader, 5-0, behind the three-hit pitching of Dennis Leonard. The Angels rebounded to take the nightcap, 7-4, despite the return of George Brett to the Royals' lineup. Brett went 2-for-5 to maintain his average at .396.

The Royals scored in the first inning of the lidlifter when Willie Wilson singled, took second on a walk, stole third and came home on a sacrifice fly by Hal McRae. Wilson singled in two more runs in the second inning. The Angels won the second game when a three-run double by Brian Downing in the seventh inning broke a 4-4 tie. [The Sporting News]
