A single by pinch-hitter Jerry Martin in the ninth inning capped a two-run rally and brought the Cubs a 4-3 victory over the Phillies. Larry Biittner, pinch-hitting for Mike Tyson, led off with a double and was replaced on the paths by Mick Kelleher, who was tagged out at third base on an attempted sacrifice bunt by Steve Dillard.

Cliff Johnson then walked and Ivan DeJesus singled, driving in Dillard to tie the score at 3-3. After Tug McGraw relieved Warren Brusstar on the mound for the Phillies, Martin batted for Scot Thompson and lined his game-winning single. [The Sporting News]
