Pinch-hitter John Tamargo knocked in two runs with a bases-loaded single in the sixth inning to lift the Expos into a 4-4 tie. In the ninth, Andre Dawson singled and was forced on an attempted sacrifice bunt by Rowland Office, but Gary Carter singled and, after Jim Kaat took the mound for the Cards, Warren Cromartie singled to drive in the winning run.
