Rallying in the ninth inning, the Yankees exploded for four runs to triumph over the Indians, 5-4. The Yanks began their comeback with walks to Bucky Dent and Bobby Murcer. Mike Stanton replaced Wayne Garland on the hill for the Indians and, after getting one out, gave up consecutive run-scoring singles to Bobby Brown and Bob Watson.

Sid Monge took over the mound chores and retired Reggie Jackson on a groundout that moved the runners up. Eric Soderholm then batted for Oscar Gamble and stroked a single that delivered the tying and winning runs. [The Sporting News]
