Bruce Sutter struck out Jerry Morales with the tying run on second base to stem a five-run ninth-inning uprising by the Mets and preserve a 6-5 victory for the Cubs. The Mets trailed, 6-0, entering the ninth, but knocked out starter Mike Krukow and reliever Lee Smith on a five-hit barrage before Sutter came on.
