The Reds stayed in the chase for the West Division title by outlasting the Padres, 7-6, in 10 innings. After Gene Tenace had tied the game for the Padres at 5-5 with a three-run homer in the sixth, a double by Dan Driessen put the Reds ahead, 6-5, in the seventh.

The Padres tied the game in the eighth on an error by Reds catcher Vic Correll. In the 10th, Ken Griffey drilled a one-out triple and scored the Reds' winning run on a sacrifice fly by Dave Concepcion. [The Sporting News]
