Pounding out 15 hits, the Expos defeated the Cubs, 8-4, to maintain their fingerhold on first place in the East Division. The Expos scored four runs in the second inning on doubles by Andre Dawson and Gary Carter, a single by Warren Cromartie, triple by Larry Parrish and an error by Cubs second baseman Mike Tyson.

Singles by Parrish and Chris Speier and a sacrifice fly by Charlie Lea made it 5-0 in the fifth. Carter batted in two runs with a double in the seventh. Stan Bahnsen sparkled in relief, pitching 3 2/3 innings of scoreless ball. [The Sporting News]
