A pinch-single by Manny Mota in the 12th inning drove home the winning run and enabled the Dodgers to move into a first-place tie in the West Division with a 5-4 triumph over the Giants. Dusty Baker began the 12th with a single and reached third when Giants catcher Mike Sadek threw a bunt by Steve Garvey into right field.

After Mickey Hatcher was walked intentionally, Bobby Mitchell flied out and Baker was caught attempting to steal home. But Mota, the all-time major league leader in pinch-hits, delivered the decisive blow that moved the Dodgers to the top of the division standings in a tie with Astros. [The Sporting News]
