Minnesota Owner Calvin Griffith signed interim Manager Johnny Goryl to direct the club in 1981 and the Twins reacted by defeating the Royals, 3-0, for their seventh straight victory. Geoff Zahn fashioned the shutout on a six-hitter. Butch Wynegar drove in the Twins' first run with a single in the second inning and Hosken Powell capped the scoring with a two-run homer in the sixth to spoil Dennis Leonard's bid for his 20th victory.
