A double by Luis Salazar in the eighth inning for his third hit of the game followed a double by Dave Winfield and gave the Padres a 3-2 victory over the Dodgers. Padres shortstop Ozzie Smith handled two assists and raised his season total to 602, breaking the major league record for shortstops of 601 by Glenn Wright of the Pirates in 1924.
