An infield hit by Ivan DeJesus scored Steve Dillard in the eighth inning and gave the Cubs a 9-8 victory over the Pirates. John Candelaria, who started for the Pirates, batted in four runs with a single and double to help his club take a 5-2 lead, but the Cubs erupted for five runs on six hits in the fourth inning.

The game subsequently was tied at 7-7 and 8-8 before Dillard led off the Cubs' eighth with a double, took third on a grounder by Mick Kelleher and scored when De.lesus beat out a chopper to shortstop Tim Foli. [The Sporting News]
