The Orioles kept their pennant hopes alive by sweeping a doubleheader from the Red Sox, 5-2 and 4-3. Dennis Martinez hurled a five-hitter in the opener and the Birds scored in the second inning on an infield out by Doug DeCinces, then picked up two more runs in the fourth on back-to-back homers by DeCinces and Rick Dempsey. Dempsey also doubled home an eighth-inning tally.

The Orioles trailed, 3-2, entering the sixth inning of the nightcap when Ken Singleton lashed a one-out triple and Eddie Murray followed with a circuit swat. [The Sporting News]
