Atoning for an error that gave Pittsburgh a run in the top of the 10th inning, Joel Youngblood cracked a two-run homer in the bottom of the frame to give the Mets a 5-4 victory over the Pirates before 1,787 fans, the smallest crowd ever for a baseball game at Shea Stadium.

Hubie Brooks led off the Mets' 10th with a single and, two outs later, Youngblood connected for the circuit. The Bucs had taken a 4-3 lead in the top of the frame on a two-base error by Youngblood on Dale Berra's fly and a run-scoring single by Bernie Carbo. [The Sporting News]
