. . . where the 1970s live forever!
After flirting with a no-hitter for seven innings, Steve Carlton settled for a two-hitter in pitching the Phillies to a 5-0 victory over the Cubs. The only hits off the ace southpaw were a leadoff single by Mike Vail in the eighth and two-out single by Bill Buckner in the ninth.

The Phils scored four runs in the sixth on back-to-back homers by Mike Schmidt and Greg Luzinski, a triple by Del Unser, infield out by Manny Trillo, singles by Larry Bowa and Bob Boone and a sacrifice fly by Carlton. Boone singled home the Phillies' final run in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
