The Dodgers kept their West Division hopes alive by coming from behind to tie the score on a single by Ron Cey in the ninth inning and then beating the Astros, 3-2, on a homer by Joe Ferguson in the 10th. The victory moved the Dodgers within two games of the Astros with two left to play.

The Astros scored their initial run in the second on a double by Alan Ashby and single by Ken Forsch. Rick Monday and Steve Garvey hit doubles to tie the score in the fourth, but the Astros went ahead again with a run in the eighth on a pass to Cesar Cedeno, single by Art Howe and sacrifice fly by Ashby. Monday singled for his third hit of the game in the ninth and Dusty Baker was safe on an error by Rafael Landestoy. After Garvey flied out, Cey hit his single to score pinch-runner Rudy Law and pave the way for Ferguson's game-winning homer in the 10th. [The Sporting News]
