A four-run outburst in the top of the ninth inning carried the Orioles to a 5-1 victory over the Red Sox. The score was 1-1 when Ken Singleton led off the Baltimore ninth with a two-bagger and was replaced by pinch-runner Wayne Krenchicki.

Tom Burgmeier then relieved Steve Crawford on the mound for the Bosox and the Birds loaded the bases on an error by shortstop Glenn Hoffman and infield single by Gary Roenicke. Burgmeier retired the next two batters but Jose Morales put the Orioles ahead with a two-run single. The Orioles then pulled a double steal to make it 4-1 and Rich Dauer capped the rally with a run-scoring double. [The Sporting News]
