Homers by Dan Driessen, Johnny Bench and Ray Knight powered the Reds to a 7-1 triumph over the Padres in San Diego's home opener. Driessen's blast came with the bases empty in the second inning. Bench's blow came in the fourth with two mates aboard and was followed by Knight's clout. Tom Seaver, yielding three hits in eight innings, posted his 246th career victory.
