The Dodgers extended their winning streak to five games, beating the Giants, 7-1, behind the four-hit pitching of Fernando Valenzuela. The Giants run in the eighth was the first earned run allowed by Valenzuela after 11 shutout appearances covering 34 2/3 innings.

L.A. scored in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Ron Cey and added another in the seventh on a solo homer by Steve Yeager. Cey doubled home two tallies in the eighth and Steve Garvey doubled home two more in a three-run ninth. [The Sporting News]
