The A's made two first-inning runs stand up to come away with a 2-1 decision over the Twins. Dwayne Murphy drew a one-out walk in the first, reached third on an errant pickoff attempt and scored on Dave Revering's towering drive that center fielder Mickey Hatcher lost in the sun for a triple.

After Wayne Gross popped out, Tony Armas doubled past third to plate Revering. The Twins scored in the fourth on an RBI double by John Castino and put the leadoff man on first in the ninth but Craig Minetto and Jeff Jones came on to slam the door and preserve the victory. [The Sporting News]
