. . . where the 1970s live forever!
The White Sox victimized Baltimore pitching for 26 hits, most ever against the Orioles in a single game, for an 18-5 whipping in the opener and then gained the doubleheader sweep with a 5-3 win in the nightcap. Chet Lemon drove in four runs and Bill Almon and Greg Pryor add three RBIs each as Chicago scored in each of the first six innings of the first game. Lemon and Almon each drove in two runs in a seven-run fourth that broke open a 3-3 contest.

Chicago trailed 3-2 in the fifth inning of the second game when Pryor singled and Almon walked. After both runners advanced on an infield out by Tony Bernazard, Harold Baines smacked a two-run single to right. Jim Essian's run-scoring double added an insurance run in the sixth to give Francisco Barrios, who pitched 6 1/3 innings, his first victory since May 15, 1980. Ken Singleton clubbed three homers in the doubleheader for Baltimore. [The Sporting News]
