A two-run homer by Mike Schmidt climaxed a four-run fifth inning that carried the Phillies to a 6-4 victory over the Cubs, extending Chicago's losing streak to 10 games. The score was 1-1 when Steve Carlton opened the fifth with a walk and moved to third on a double by Pete Rose.
