. . . where the 1970s live forever!

A three-run homer by Dwayne Murphy in the sixth inning was the key blow as the A's continued their winning ways by subduing the Mariners, 9-4. The A's were behind, 4-3, when Mike Heath led off the sixth with a single and reached second when pinch-hitter Mike Patterson drew a one-out walk. After Rickey Henderson popped out, Murphy connected for the circuit on an 0-2 count.

The A's scored three more runs in the ninth on an RBI double by Tony Armas, run-scoring single by Heath and a bonehead play by Seattle center fielder Joe Simpson. Simpson caught Dave McKay's long fly for the second out of the frame but thought it was the third out. He trotted toward the dugout, allowing Cliff Johnson to score from second. [The Sporting News]
