Recording his first complete game of the season, Pete Redfern fired a five-hitter in pitching the Twins to a 4-1 decision over the Mariners. The Twins tallied twice in the first inning on run-scoring singles by Roy Smalley and Rick Sofield, and extended the margin to 3-0 in the fourth on an RBI single by Rob Wilfong.

The final Twins marker came in the seventh frame when John Castino drilled his second triple of the game and scored on a single by Mickey Hatcher. The Mariners' lone run was fifth-inning homer by Richie Zisk, his fifth round-tripper in the last five games, one shy of the league record. [The Sporting News]
