Gaylord Perry notched his 291st career victory and the Braves snapped a five-game losing streak with a 2-1 decision over the Cubs. The Braves scored both runs in the sixth. Eddie Miller got an infield hit, stole second and scored on Biff Pocoroba's single.

Jerry Royster ran for Pocoroba, and Atlanta loaded the bases on errors by first baseman Bill Buckner on Claudell Washington's ground ball and third baseman Ken Reitz on Bob Horner's grounder. Cubs' starter Bill Caudill then walked Chris Chambliss on a 3-2 pitch. [The Sporting News]
