The Pirates snapped the Astros' five-game winning streak as second baseman Kiko Garcia bobbled Mike Easler's one-out grounder in the 12th inning, allowing John Milner to score the decisive run in a 5-4 victory. Milner had walked and taken third on a single by Bill Madlock before Easler hit a slow roller to Garcia, who fumbled the ball before throwing late to the plate. Each team scored in the 10th, Houston on a sacrifice fly by Mike Ivie and Pittsburgh on Madlock's groundout.
