The Brewers blasted four home runs and 16 hits in all to slug the Angels, 8-5. Larry Hisle rapped a three-run homer in the first before the Angels tied the score in the bottom of the inning. Dan Ford belted a solo homer with two out, and after Fred Lynn and John Harris singled to put men on first and third, the Brewers' Moose Haas balked to let in a run and Ed Ott's single tied it.

The Brewers scored four runs in the third on Cecil Cooper's leadoff homer, a two-run blast by Ted Simmons and Jim Gantner's RBI single.
