The Phillies used the home-run ball to whip the Giants, 3-1, in the second game of a twi-night doubleheader after the Giants took the opener, 6-2, on a combined six-hitter by Doyle Alexander and Greg Minton. The Phils' Marty Bystrom pitched a three-hitter in the nightcap, yielding a fifth-inning homer to Darrell Evans. Keith Moreland slugged two homers for the Phils, in the sixth and eighth, and Mike Schmidt homered in the fourth.

Evans also had a homer and two-run single in the opener. Jack Clark smashed a two-run homer and Enos Cabell had an RBI single. Gary Matthews' two-bagger in the eighth drove in the Phils' only two runs. [The Sporting News]
