The Yankees swept a twin-bill from the A's, winning the opener, 3-2 in 10 innings and capturing the nightcap, 2-0. The first game was tied, 2-2, when Jerry Mumphrey led off the 10th inning with a homer.

Tommy John and Rich Gossage combined on a six-hitter in the second game. Jim Spencer cracked a leadoff homer in the seventh inning and the Yanks picked up another tally in the eighth on a run-scoring single by Dave Winfield. [The Sporting News]
