Aided by Los Angeles misplays, the Expos scored four runs in the second inning and edged the Dodgers, 4-3. Warren Cromartie began the bottom of the second with a single, reached second on a walk to Rowland Office but was thrown out attempting to score on a single by Chris Speier.

As the play continued, Speier was caught in a rundown between first and second and reached second as Office scored. Steve Rogers then reached first on an error by third baseman Ron Cey as Speier scored.
