Rallying for two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Phillies edged the Dodgers, 8-7. With the Phils behind, 7-6, the winning surge began when pinch-hitter Del Unser and Pete Rose drew one-out walks and Mike Schmidt followed with a run-scoring double.

Steve Howe relieved Bobby Castillo on the hill for the Dodgers and issued an intentional pass to Gary Matthews to load the bases. Manny Trillo then lined out to Ken Landreaux in center field but the throw home was wide, allowing Rose to score the game-winning run. [The Sporting News]
