The Pirates swept a twi-night doubleheader from the Reds, winning the first game, 3-1, and the nightcap, 7-1. Rick Rhoden and Enrique Romo combined on a seven-hitter in the opener and Tony Pena singled to drive in the tie-breaking run in the seventh.

A three-run double by Dale Berra was the key blow in the second game. Winning pitcher Eddie Solomon scattered seven hits before needing help from Grant Jackson in the ninth. [The Sporting News]
