A three-run uprising in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted the Mets to a 7-4 triumph over the Dodgers. After Pedro Guerrero's second homer of the game, a two-run shot, had tied the score in the top of the eighth, Hubie Brooks began the winning rally with a single in the bottom of the frame and raced to third on a single by Rusty Staub. After Bob Bailor was inserted as a pinch-runner for Staub and Steve Howe replaced Bobby Castillo as the Dodgers pitcher, Alex Trevino rapped a single to score Brooks with the go-ahead run.

When Doug Flynn bunted, third baseman Ron Cey, trying for the forceout at second, threw the ball into center field and Bailor scored the second run of the inning, Trevino reaching third and Flynn second on the play. Pinch-hitter John Stearns was intentionally walked to fill the sacks and, one out later, Frank Taveras closed out the scoring with a sacrifice fly. [The Sporting News]
