. . . where the 1970s live forever!

A third-strike wild pitch opened the gates for a four-run 10th inning that lifted the Red Sox to a 9-5 victory over the Blue Jays. The score was 5-5 when Dwight Evans began the top of the 10th by striking out, but he reached first safely when the ball got past the catcher.

Dave Stapleton sacrificed Evans to second, from where he scored on a single by Carney Lansford. After Lansford was thrown out attempting to steal, Jim Rice and Tony Perez singled and Joe Rudi put the game away with a three-run homer. Toronto had tied the game in the seventh on a run-scoring single by Alfredo Griffin. Tom Burgmeier pitched 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to pick up the win. [The Sporting News]
