. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Ron Guidry and Rich Gossage combined to pitch the Yankees to a 4-1 triumph over the A's, Oakland's first loss on the road in 12 games this season. Guidry was forced to leave in the eighth inning when he was struck by a hard grounder off his left shin and Gossage came on to record his ninth save.

The Yanks scored twice in the fourth on a solo homer by Bobby Murcer and run-scoring single by Graig Nettles, and added two tallies in the eighth on a run-scoring tripple by Willie Randolph and RBI double by Dave Winfield. [The Sporting News]
