A two-run, two-out homer by Ron Cey climaxed a four-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning that boosted the Dodgers to an 8-6 triumph over the Expos. The Expos took a 6-4 lead with a five-run outburst, keyed by a two-run double by Gary Carter, in the top of the ninth.

The Dodgers surge in the bottom of the frame began with one out when Davey Lopes was hit by a pitch and, one out later, reached second as shortstop Chris Speier erred on pinch-hitter Reggie Smith's grounder. With both runners on the move, Steve Garvey looped a ball into shallow right field that trickled off second baseman Rodney Scott's glove for a two-run single. Cey then unloaded his circuit swat.
