A homer and triple by Jerry Martin helped power the Giants to a 4-2 triumph over the Expos. Martin tripled and scored on a single by Milt May in the second inning and capped a three-run third with a solo round-tripper. The other Giants' runs in the third came on a walk to Bill North, triple by Jack Clark and sacrifice fly by Darrell Evans.

Montreal rookie Tim Raines stole his 32nd base in the third inning but was nailed in the seventh after being caught in a rundown on a double steal attempt when he was fooled by pitcher Gary Lavelle's motion. [The Sporting News]
