Dave Ford, relieving starter Steve Stone, who left the game after two innings because of a sore elbow, pitched seven scoreless frames as the Orioles downed the Twins, 7-0. Rick Dempsey opened the scoring in the third inning with a solo homer and Eddie Murray added a two-run single later in that same frame.

The Orioles picked up two more tallies in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Bob Bonner and RBI double by Rich Dauer. Gary Roenicke singled home a fifth-inning run and Dempsey plated the final tally in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
