In a battle of home runs, the Tigers outslugged the Angels, 7-5. After a two-run circuit clout by Butch Hobson in the top of the fourth inning gave the Angels a 5-4 lead, the Tigers rebounded in the bottom of the frame on a run-scoring single by Richie Hebner and sacrifice fly by Tom Brookens.

Lou Whitaker clouted a three-run round-tripper to climax a four-run second inning for Detroit, while Rod Carew and Dan Ford connected for the Angels in the third inning. The Tigers' final tally came on a bases-empty homer by John Wockenfuss in the fifth. [The Sporting News]
