The Reds won their eighth straight game on a 10-7 decision over the Cubs, Chicago's eighth consecutive defeat. The Reds were behind, 5-4, when they loaded the bases in the seventh inning on a pinch-single by Harry Spilman, error by Cubs third baseman Hector Cruz and a fielder's choice on a sacrifice bunt.

A single by Dave Concepcion scored Spilman to tie the game and, two outs later, Ray Knight drew a bases-loaded walk. Cincinnati iced the game in the ninth on a run-scoring double by Concepcion and three-run homer by Doug Bair. [The Sporting News]
