A solo homer by Ken Singleton in the eighth inning produced the go-ahead run as the Orioles won over the Tigers, 4-2. The Birds scored twice in the third frane on a run-scoring double by Rich Dauer and an RBI single by Singleton. Singleton's ninth round-tripper of the campaign came with two out in the eighth and the Orioles tallied an insurance marker in the ninth on an RBI single by Gary Roenicke.

Tigers' runs came on sacrifice flies by Alan Trammell and Champ Summers in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively. Detroit lost a run in the fourth inning when Steve Kemp, who had tripled, failed to tag up when John Wockenfuss his a short fly to center that Al Bumbry caught while tumbling. [The Sporting News]
