The Tigers mauled the Orioles twice, winning the first game of the doubleheader, 8-2, and the second game, 5-3. Detroit put away the opener with a five-run fourth inning, the runs coming on an RBI double by Tom Brookens and successive two-out, run-scoring singles by Alan Trammell, Steve Kemp, Richie Hebner and Champ Summers. Kemp also had an RBI groundout in the first inning and a two-run homer in the sixth.

The second game was tied 3-3 in the eighth when Lance Parrish belted a two-run homer, his second round-tripper of the game. His first circuit swat came in the fourth inning with the bases empty. [The Sporting News]
