The score was 1-1 when Charlie Moore opened the bottom of the 14th in the first game with a double and reached third as Robin Yount grounded out. After Ben Oglivie was walked intentionally, Gorman Thomas beat out a bunt to load the bases. Ted Simmons then delivered a sacrifice fly to end the game.

Boston tallied six runs in the top of the eighth inning in the second game to take a 7-6 lead, but the Brewers came back in the bottom of the frame with four markers. Boston's six runs came on RBI singles by Tony Perez and Joe Rudi, a run-scoring double by Rick Miller, two bases-loaded walks and a sacrifice fly by Jim Rice. Milwaukee's comeback began when Moore reached first on an error by shortstop Dave Stapleton, went to second on a sacrifice and came home on a pinch-single by Yount.
