A homer and triple by Lee Mazzilli keyed the Mets to a 3-1 triumph over the Cardinals in 10 innings. After Keith Hernandez tied the game at 1-1 with a leadoff homer in the bottom of the ninth inning, Mazzilli, who had homered in the fifth, led off the 10th with a fly ball that center fielder Tony Scott misplayed for a three-bagger.

Mazzilli scored on a double by John Stearns, who moved to third on a single by Hubie Brooks and came home on an error by St. Louis shortstop Mike Ramsey. The Cards had a runner on second with two out in the ninth when Neil Allen relieved and struck out Gene Tenace. [The Sporting News]
