A three-run double by Tony Bernazard in the fourth inning was the big blow as the White Sox downed the A's, 4-1, behind the seven-hit hurling of Britt Burns. The Sox loaded the bases in the fourth on a single by Mike Squires, a hit batsman and a walk, and then Bernazard cleared the sacks with his two-bagger.

Oakland reliever Bo McLaughlin was taken to the hospital after being hit in the face by a line drive off the bat of Harold Baines and knocked unconscious in the eighth inning. He was attended by doctors on the field for 15 minutes, regained consciousness and was taken to the hospital. [The Sporting News]
