Laying down an 18-hit barrage, the Dodgers routed the Reds, 16-4. The Dodgers were behind, 4-0, going into the bottom of the third inning, then exploded for seven runs, kayoing Mario Soto. The markers came on a run-scoring single by Derrel Thomas, two-run single by Dusty Baker, an error by Reds' catcher Mike O'Berry that permitted two runs, and Pedro Guerrero's two-run single.

The victory increased the Dodgers' lead in the N.L. West to 5½ games over the Reds. The Dodgers' 10th straight sellout upped their attendance to 1,026,725 for 22 games, the earliest any major league team ever reached the million mark. [The Sporting News]
