Erupting for four runs in the ninth inning, the Reds downed the Giants, 8-5. The Reds were behind, 5-4, when Dave Collins began the ninth with a walk and raced to third on a single by Ken Griffey. After a double by Dave Concepcion scored Collins, George Foster drew an intentional walk to load the bases.

Gary Lavelle then replaced Greg Minton on the mound and struck out pinch-hitter Mike Vail, but Ray Knight put the Reds ahead with an RBI single. A two-run double by Dan Driessen capped the outburst. [The Sporting News]
