Homers by Dave Winfield and Bucky Dent highlighted a 14-hit attack that carried the Yankees to a 5-3 triumph over the Indians. Dent snapped a 2-2 tie on a solo shot in the fourth inning. Winfield's blow came with the bases empty in the fifth, and Rick Cerone delivered a run-scoring single later in the frame.

Doug Bird, although needing relief, received credit for his 11th straight victory. The righthander hasn't been charged with a defeat since August 16, 1978. [The Sporting News]
