Getting his first hit since being recalled last week from Oklahoma City (American Association), George Vukovich had a pinch-single to score Greg Gross and cap a two-run rally in the eighth inning which lifted the Phillies to a 5-4 triumph over the Mets. The Phils were behind, 4-3, going into the eighth, but tied the score on a leadoff homer by Garry Maddox.

After two outs Gross singled, took third on a double by Pete Rose and scored on an infield single by Vukovich. Dave Kingman had put the Mets ahead, 4-3, in the top of the eighth with a solo homer, his sixth in the last seven games. [The Sporting News]
