Brilliant pitching by Gaylord Perry carried the Braves to a 10-inning, 3-1 triumph over the Dodgers. The veteran righthander allowed only five hits in working the first nine frames to record his 294th career victory.

Bruce Benedict opened the 10th with a single and reached second on a sacrifice by Rafael Ramirez. After Biff Pocoroba was announced as the pinch-hitter for Perry, Steve Howe replaced Dave Stewart on the hill. Bill Nahorodny then batted for Pocoroba and smacked an RBI double.
